Linh Nguyen

AAPI Herstory is a series hosted by Nadya Okamoto, inspired by her academic work at Harvard with Dr. Vivian Shaw. Nadya Okamoto is the Founder of PERIOD and author of PERIOD POWER.

Linh Nguyen and I sat down to talk candidly about the lack of clarity around what it means to be Asian American today, and the urgency of mobilizing the AAPI vote. Linh was the Director of Coalitions for Senator Cory Booker’s presidential campaign and is currently the Political Director at RUNAAPI.

In my conversation with Linh, we discuss the lack of clarity around what it means to be Asian American today, especially given that the term is meant to include dozens of different racial and ethnic groups. Linh shared that we need to “claim space” as we have “such low expectations for representation,” and outreach to AAPI voters needs to be ongoing, not an afterthought that launches a couple months before Election Day.
